Gemstone of the Week: Colored Diamonds

Diamonds come in all colors of the rainbow spectrum. Although the general perception is that white colorless diamonds are the most prevalent, the reality is that brown diamonds take the top spot in terms of prevalence. Following brown, yellow diamonds are next in line, while naturally occurring colors like purple, red, and orange are considered the rarest. Some hues like blue and green can be induced in diamonds through irradiation. Among the naturally occurring variations are captivating shades of light pink diamonds, abundantly unearthed at the Argyle mine in Australia. Although this mine yielded smaller stones and had a brief operational span, its impact on the diamond industry was profound, making pink diamonds more accessible.
